Jewish groups outsource HR, PR

Two South Florida Jewish organizations have contracted across the region for outsourcing - one for public relations services and the other for human resource services.

Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service of South Palm Beach County (RRJFS) said it has selected Thorp & Co. as its public relations agency of record. The Coral Gables-based PR firm said it will implement a public relations program to educate South Palm Beach County residents and out-of-state family members of the area's senior citizens about nonprofit RRJFS' counseling services and support programs.

The agency also said its public relations initiatives, which will consist of media relations and community relations, will also focus on raising awareness of Boca Raton-based RRJFS among prospective donors. "While we're celebrating our 25th anniversary this year, it's been only two years since we established RRJFS as a separate entity from the Jewish Federation," said Jaclynn Faffer, RRJFS executive director. "With the breadth and quality of the programs that we offer, we want more community members to know they can turn to RRJFS. Furthermore, we want people to know how deeply we appreciate their contributions to RRJFS. This is what enables us to provide our services."

Thorp & Co. did not disclose contract terms, but indicated two senior executives will manage the campaign.

In a contract moving the opposite way, geographically, Boca Raton-based AlphaStaff Group said it has entered an HR deal with Temple Beth Am synagogue of Pinecrest.

"This is the first time the synagogue has entrusted their benefits, payroll, tax filings and other HR administrative tasks for their more than 150 employees to an outside organization," AlphaStaff said.

Jay Starkman, AlphaStaff president, said nonprofit organizations have unique challenges.

"Other administrative companies are either incapable of configuring their services to accommodate these organizations, or have no interest in making the investment required to cater to their needs," he said. "AlphaStaff has the scalable solution with the experience and technology resources that make human resource outsourcing the answer to any such obstacles."
